Colleges and Academics

The University has more than 40 academic programs, undergraduate and graduate and is divided among three colleges; the Undergraduate College, the Graduate College, and the College of Professional Studies. The undergraduate departments and academic majors at the University main campus located in Adrian, MI are organized in five academic divisions:

  • Business Management
  • Computing, Mathematics and the Sciences
  • Humanities
  • Social and Behavioral Science
  • Visual and Performing Arts and Teacher Education

The University Graduate College focuses on three main areas of study:

  • Counselor Education
  • Leadership
  • Teacher Education

In addition, the University offers an undergraduate degree program in Theological Studies in the name of the Catholic Church. In response to the church's need for new lay ministers grounded in theology, Bishop Robert J. Carlson developed a program for the formation of lay ministers. Because of its commitment to non-traditional/adult students, Siena Heights University was chosen to lead the Diocesan Ministry Formation Program. This academic program consists of 36 credit hours. Siena Heights University provides the twelve theology courses in theological studies required by the Diocese. The College for Professional Studies consists of eleven completion centers. The University also offers an Online Degree completion program. Today, Siena Heights continues its long tradition of integrating liberal arts and career education. In addition, interaction between student and professor is encouraged. The University intentionally maintains a low student volume per classroom in order to enhance the learning potential of each student. A 15:1 ratio per classroom is the average. Undergraduate students must also complete a Senior Project and Thesis in addition to their academic requirements to graduate. Each Senior Project will be argued before a board, consisting of faculty members within the student’s major. Another means by which the University fosters an open communication model is referred to as Common Dialog Day. This is a Siena Heights tradition that allows for a day of discussion, debate and reflection. There are no classes during this day, and students are encouraged to participate with faculty, staff, alumni and administration to discuss different topics.
