Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Tsukuba is pleased to announce an open competition for its Master's Program in International Relations and Public Policy for Central Asian countries.

Background of the Program

Special Program for Central Asian Countries in International Relations and Public Policy forms a part of the Global 30 Project for Establishing Core Universities for Internationalization" which is aimed at making efforts to provide high-quality education in response to the features of select universities and to offer an environment in Japan where international students can easily study. This program aims to contribute to the capacity building in post-Soviet Central Asia by providing research and study opportunities to recent graduates, graduate students and professionals at the University of Tsukuba and by enhancing their knowledge in the fields of social and human sciences, international affairs and public policy. The Master's Program targets the applicants who are interested in studying and making research on international relations and other related fields.

LANGUAGE OF EDUCATION: English is designed to be the main language of instruction in this program. Therefore, previous knowledge of Japanese language is not required for enrolling into this program.

NATIONALITY: The primary target countries for this program are Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. Although the primary target of this program are students from post- Soviet Central Asian countries, a very limited number of candidates from countries neighboring Central Asian countries (ex: Russia, China, Mongolia, etc) might be considered for admission.

AGE: Applicants must be under 35 years age as of April 1st, 2010 (i.e. born on and after April 2nd, 1975).

NOTE: Those candidates applying for the 2 year MA Program in Japanese Studies or for the 1 year MA Program in Education and Cultural Policy for Central Asian Countries in the University of Tsukuba are ineligible to apply for this Program. If candidates are eligible to apply for the three programs, they will have to choose only one per time.
